Well, I hoped the IPK files could be provided by someone using OpenPLI on VU+ platform. Are you aware of a location (server) where the packages are available for download?

You can also flash an OpenPLI image.  :)

Backup your Vti settings etc.
Flash the OpenPLI image.
Install xfs-progs using opkg from the PLI repository.
Run mkfs.xfs to format your HDD.
Reflash the Vti image.
Restore your Vti settings.

Your HDD should still be xfs and usable under Vti.

Hi,
in the meantime I have managed to mount a XFS partition that I have formatted connected to a desktop PC. This ensures that disk alignment is correct.

What is the PLI repository?
I may add this to the VIi image and install programs from this repository.

If you have Vti image running, then you need to ask the Vti guys.

root@et9x00:~# opkg list | grep xfskernel-module-xfs - 3.8.7-r5.3 - linux-etxx00 version 3.8.7-r5.3 xfs kernel module; SGI XFS with security attributes, realtime, largelibhandle1 - 3.1.8-r1 - xfsprogs version 3.1.8-r1xfsprogs - 3.1.8-r1 - xfsprogs version 3.1.8-r1xfsprogs-dev - 3.1.8-r1 - xfsprogs version 3.1.8-r1 - Development filesxfsprogs-fsck - 3.1.8-r1 - xfsprogs version 3.1.8-r1xfsprogs-mkfs - 3.1.8-r1 - xfsprogs version 3.1.8-r1xfsprogs-staticdev - 3.1.8-r1 - xfsprogs version 3.1.8-r1 - Development files (Static Libraries)
So, it should be easy for you to install them...

Thanks for this helpful reply.
I checked the "list" of available programs for my platform (VU+ Solo2, VTi 5.1), but didn't get the same result as you.
Based on your reply, I can see that you run ET 9x00, and I assume that your image includes a feed that provides the xfs-packages.

Could you check the feed providing the xfs-packages, or do you know if the packages are compiled for VU+ with VTi 5.1?

Yes you were perfectly clear. And also as you choose to not explain why you'd want to use it, some forum users might be less willing to spend effort to answer your question.

More advantages than disadvantages compared to EXT4 (http://www.mythtv.or.../XFS_Filesystem).

Maybe I didn't make it clear. This is not a question WHY but WHERE: Where do I get the IPK xfsprogs for VU+? The question WHY is rather academic and won't be finally answered here. THX
