well when you scan it will pickup all channels that are on that tp. so if you loose some preexisiting channels, that means those channels no longer exist. so is loosing them a problem ?

I never used a cable DB (North America doesn't use the DVB-c standard besides in the Bahamas I believe), but guessing...

Save your channel list, scan the new channel, open the original & newly scanned services file and add the newly scanned channel's entry to the older service file / channel list, then reload it to the DB...

That page describes downloading channel settings from PLi's servers to your DB. IF they had a channel list for your cable service, it may work, but downloading some satellite's settings will do no good for cable reception. Most people probably use DreamboxEdit to make changes to their channel lists. By opening 2 instances of Dbedit, one containing the old mostly working channels, and the 2nd the newly scanned channels, you should be able to drag & drop channels between the 2 lists.

It is generally hard to truly break a DB unless one does foolish things like plugging/unplugging the coax while the box is turned on , etc... If you have DreamUP & a null-modem cable, if anything goes wrong you should be able to recover by reloading a new image 99.5% of the time. Try not to be too scared of messing something up.

Hi
the channel list was done on the list already but due to some changing on the cable tv i will need to re-arrange the list and add in 2 new more channel.. (for new channel i know the apid/vpid/pcrpid.etc)...

if i use DreamboxEdit all i need is to connect using ftp?
