The image is complete, because it supports the major networking filesystems cifs and nfs. After quick glance at the sc101 it doesn't support cifs or nfs. Then the question is, why didn't you just buy a NAS that supports cifs and/or nfs?

And this piece does not understand samba?

I hope it does, because it's the most basic of all and included in all images.

it's not that simple.
Network mounts at the moment are fully brought up with the mount command.
A simple mount, with some mount options, that's all it takes to make a mount.
This means it can be done in a generic way, or even automatically from /etc/fstab.

nbd uses a different approach.
You need to setup a share-specific devicenode, which you can then mount using the mount command.
So even if we would make the nbd driver available, you'd need a userspace client tool, and hack around in initscripts to make it work.

So we don't see an advantage, in fact it would probably lead to additional work for us, because people would kind of expect us to make a solution to bring up nbd mounts as easy as cifs or nfs mounts.

@Apocalipse1:

Assuming you didn't buy the san for the dreambox alone, you're likely to have a server which connects (with nbd) to the netgear. On that server you can share the space through cifs or nfs.
