VTi and BH are already on 3.1.1. Did they get the required patches also from vuplus?

What do you mean with giving them a quick spin?

he was speaking to Milo as he said his box was gathering dust without a pli based image, rather than let it sit there doing nothing why not put vix on it for a while to try untill you have your own image working ?.

VTI and BH are based on VU+ original image. PLi isnt and that is why we dont have 3.1.1 kernel yet.

Exactly. If the PLi based ViX-image managed to upgrade to the Linux 3.1.1 kernel, why should PLi not be able/wanting to do so?
Apparently they can even use the ViX-GIT for that!
Having ViX on DUO and UNO I can clearly see the advantages of this upgrade.

See Milo's comment...

VU+ promissed us their commitment to support us if they want OpenPLi images for their boxtypes
so now it's up to them to act

on the Glassfibre 1GB DVB-C...

well sorry i just can't get my head around this, why would you expect vu to do the work for your git, when they have their own, it would be like me asking you to give me patch for our image. that just not never gonna happen.

andy.

I have to agree, I find it strange that AndyB can fix VIX but PLI are having to wait for VU+ to fix their GIT, come on guys get it sorted/

hmm, for me it's pretty clear:

VU+ promissed us their commitment to support us if they want OpenPLi images for their boxtypes
so now it's up to them to act

Another thing is that I don't want to make the VU engineers too lazy. If we just go ahead and do the work ourselves, the implied message to VU is basically that "if you don't do it, don't worry, we'll just do it for you". I don't want to go that way, as long as they promise to maintain that software themselves, I want to keep them to it.

seems that there were/are some promises that should be met...

Could you describe the clearly advantages of this upgrade ??? or is it what you think to see ?

Very fast boot times (especially on the 512 MB boxes), Ext4 support (although not so very important IMHO) and (embeddded) easy support for all kinds of hardware.
And apart from that: driver development will only take place for the 3.1.1 kernel.

Linux3 support UBIFS which is maybe the best point.
Hopefully VU+ supply the patches so that no mistake will been made.

They didn't add linux3 support to their own git yet? I cannot find the changes in the git

Andy probably used the kernel3 patch from Xtrend and changed it on only the name and download directory so it works with VU+.
I have check it in VIX git and it seems it's simular as the Xtrend patch.
Probably this will work but it's better to wait for the official patches from VU+ as it seems nobody knows if their is patches or changes made into to drivers and linuxstb file.

I see no UBIFS support in VIX probably they wait for VU+ as well for this patch?
I suggest just wait for the real patches.
