Better would be to (at least) commit all existing patch files that are in this thread. Then you should update all .po files.

If you initiate .po update right now, i will again have a ton of manual work with sl translation. Please be reasonable here.

There is an error in german translation file enigma2.po. Also there is something missing.

#
msgid "Add recording (enter recording duration)"
msgstr "Aufnahme hinzufügen (Aufnahmelänge eingeben)"

#
msgid "Add recording (enter recording endtime)"
msgstr "Aufnahme hinzufügen (Aufnahmeendzeit eingeben)"

#
msgid "Add recording (indefinitely)"
msgstr "Aufnahme hinzufügen (unbegrenzt)"

#
msgid "Add recording (stop after current event)"
msgstr "Aufnahme hinzufügen (aktuelle Sendung)"

#
msgid "Do not record"
msgstr "Nichts aufnehmen"

In original enigma2.po stands "add recording". The correct spelling ist "Add recording" with upper-case letters in front of.

Could you point me to which po files you mean?
(there's too much discussion going on in this thread, and random tarballs being posted, hard to keep track of what's really important)

untill the original messages are somewhat sorted, I will not update the po files;
updating the po files will trigger all developers to start making new translations, for messages which still need revision.
A lot of badly phrased messages have been added to e2 over the last few months, I really want those to be revised before merging them into the po files.

BTW, the amount of manual work required does not really change, whether we merge the po files or not.
You can always go back and take your own po file as a starting point, and merge the new messages in from our po file. msgmerge can do that for you.

Anyway, it will still be a lot of work, all of those new messages needing translations.
But please, do not start translating them yet, as they might be revised.

It would be much easier to revise the english.po file for the badly phrased messages. That way, it wouldn't affect all the other languages, generating indeed tons of work for all the translators.
The strings inside enigma code could then only be "technical" stuff, while the correct, nice-looking messages would be simply corrected in en.po.

Eg. changing from "dreambox" to "receiver" has been done several years ago in the Hungarian hu.po translation. Could have been done the same with the English en.po one, without having to affect the main source code.

As en.po is always there on all the boxes, having source string = translated string - very useful LOL.
At least it would be there for something useful.

I mean just treat en.po like any other language translation.

I don't agree, there are several messages which are plain wrong.
These need to be corrected.
In the end, it will help the translators, because it will be clearer what these messages actually meant to say.

Also, most of these messages are newly added in the last few weeks, so they haven't been translated yet (unless translators ignored my warnings and started working on them already)

is it based on the current de.po in our repository, or did Edcrane update the pofiles himself?

I took the de.mo file from my PLi 3.0 from 01.Nov. 2012 and converted it into a .po file. I then edit this file.
(Sorry for my bad english! :) )

if that po file was created from an mo file, that means all commented and fuzzy translations will have been removed.
Which might mean a lot of extra work for the translators when we merge in the new messages, that might have (partially) matched those commented (and/or fuzzy) translations.

So I'm not sure whether we should commit this po file.
Instead, it could be merged into the existing po file (so only new translations would be used, while everything else is preserved).
But this is a lot of extra work. And I'm not waiting for extra work.

yes, but please note that a lot of messages have been modified (and more will follow), so if you make the translations now, based on that file, you'll still have a lot of english messages in the menu.
(and you risk doing double work, translating messages which will soon be modified/corrected)

Is it ok, if I make new entries, even if only one letter is a upper-case letter? For example if there is a line with "add recording..." and I make a new entry with "Add recording..."? So both entries are in the file. Or is that not desired?

Regards

No, you should never make new entries. po files are automatically generated from the sourcecode, so if you make a new entry, it will be removed after the next update.
