Yes, but I think, this can be changed in finished .po files later (and in .py) with some script by team.

Yes, but it can also be done by 'translating' it in the en.po :)

I'd prefer not to have an en.po, the original messages should make sense at all times, this will help the translators to make consistent translations.

POEdit can also merge po-files: just open the old one, then go to "Catalog => Update from POT file...", change the suffix to any files (.*) and select the new po-file. Old strings will be removed and new ones will be added.

This works and is easy to do. Thanks for the advice. Finnish translation updates now done, but as requested in forum I will first test them before posting. ;)

23 translated lines did not exist in the new fi.po file that I pulled from repo compared to the old .po file. Is this correct?

Hi,

In the new lines there is option "Hide number markers" explained as "When enabled, number markers will be hiden.". What does this do? Where does it affect? I did not see any change in behaviour of my box, so it is hard to translate what it does, direct translation does not give anything meaninful...

Hi,

seems like an incorrect message and description, it should have mentioned 'numbered markers', instead of 'number markers'.

What does this do? Where does it affect? I did not see any change in behaviour of my box, so it is hard to translate what it does, direct translation does not give anything meaninful...

If you do not have numbered markers in your bouquet (most people don't), you won't see anything if you configure to hide them.

Do you have screenshots to show what is ment with this (on/off). Most likely I don't have them as I dont see any difference in bouquet. Also the explanation string has typo hiden -> hidden.

@BoxFreak
IIRC these number markers are 'placeholders' (empty entries) in the channels list, which allow services to be numbered exactly just as on the original provider's stb (some users like it this way, for whatever reason ;))
so, just guessing, with this option you can hide these empty entries in the channel selection in case you use these number markers...

So, basically what you say is that this shows channels then like they would have LCN, if I understood correctly. Can someone confirm this quess? To me this english term "number markers" and explanation does not sound then so good. Why not just have "Hide empty service entries in bouquet" with proper eplanation string... <_<

'markers' are those paperclip symbols in the channel list.
'numbered markers' are markers with a channel number.

Like I said, 'number markers' is wrong.

OK. Now I think I got it. So they are not added "channels" but markers in bouguet assigned with a channel number. Now I can translate them and the option makes sense to me. Thanks pieterg and blzr for patienly explaining this.

where did you all the

msgstr "(GMT+02:00) Ελσίνκι, Κίεβο, Σόφια"

alike messages from? The are not in de enigma2 tree.

And also, please clone the enigma repo and send git diffs instead of complete .po files. This has been mentioned many times before in this thread.

Thanks.

Basically is useless to invent new strings and add them to the .po file. Enigma2 will not be abel to use them as it doesn't know about them.

The timezone strings probably are not setup as translatable strings.

But I have to be carefull, as it may be that dynamically created strings are passed to the gettext() functions...

So if you find strings that need to be translated, try to find them in the enigma source code  and help us to set them up in a translatable way.

Also beware that you may look at texts coming from a plugin outside the enigma2 base distribution. In that case you need to update the po file for that plugin.

Here is the patch for el.po

attachicon.gif0001-New-Translation-for-Greek-Language.patch.txt

No new strings added.

Perfect, applied!

Few remarks:

1) you don't have to enter translated texts when the translated text is exactly the same as the original text.

    So:

             msgid "29.97"
             msgstr "29.97"

   is more or less pointless.

2) please try to avoid wrapping long lines in the output.

We generate all .po files with "--no-wrap" options. I assume the tool you use to do the translations should have a similar setting...
