About you sentence:
"After this commit, every language again has missing or incorrect translations."
Of course this is the goal of the po update process! It is to generate the very latest po files according with what was changed in the source code.
Where you are wrong is here: every language again ... incorrect translations.
No the process doesn't change the translated strings what it does is:
- remove the obsolete translations
- mark as fuzzy the strings that were changed in the source code and where translations already exist, fuzzy strings are no longer translated until they have been reviewed by a translator to fix them or mark them as non fuzzy. This is the normal process otherwise how would translator identified the strings that have changed. A string marked as fuzzy is not displayed in the translated GUI until the fuzzy flag is removed.
- add the new strings that needs translations.
Why do we update all the po files? Simply because it is easy for translators that know nothing about git command to download the file, work on it and place it back here on the forum for a developer to include there work into the github.
We have much more translations done since we update the po files regularly and explain how people can help us without any "developer" competences.
Translation is not something statics it evolves with the software evolution, so generating the .po files is needed otherwise translators will pick up the file work on it and then propose there translation based on an obsolete file.
We don't use any automated translation process so if there is a regression in the translation then it is a translator error. But it is not always easy to get the right translation immediately because sometimes of the lack of context.
if you update regularly it is more easy because you know the latest features introduced so you can get a better translation.
