Hi to everybody,

I'm just entering the exiting drembox world, so pardon me if I do some mistakes..

Has anyone experienced the following issue ?

While recording an HD channel, when I zap in and out that recorded channel, the picture and sound freeze a couple of seconds, and that disruption is recorded :( .

I use DM800H, open pli 3, 2TB WD green HDD.

Thanks. :)

Are watched and recorded channel on the same transponder?

We don't know of a dm800h, is this a clone?

@ Roldon,
Welcome to the PLi support board.

I assume you mean a 800se instead of a 800h which I'm not familiar with? ;)

Hello,

There may be or not. Recorded channel were FTA (3sat 19E, BBC HD 28E). The other channels are either encrypted (CSAT official card in Powercam), either FTA on different transponders, HD or not, on the same satellite (I have a Diseq and 3 dishes). I also have the same behavior with SD channels but far less noticeable. The picture pixelate or freeze around one second and goes back to normal. It happens immediatly after zapping from, or to the recorded channel.Seems to me that tuner switching may have something to do, as the recorded tuner is not locked while recording.

This is an official DM 8000 HD. Sorry for the mispelling.

Thanks for your work and your help.

This sounds like a problem that some other people report as well, but that I've never seen myself. Also it's not limited to one type or brand of receiver.

Supposedly it has something to do with how (single) DiSeqC switches are controlled from the tuners. Pieterg can elaborate. It's not something that can be solved using software, anyway.

I am using a multiswitch, which never has this problem.

Hi Erik,

I'm sorry I have to disagree with you... :) I've just bypassed the diseq switches, and you know what ? The issue is not fixed !

In fact, it is not related to the recording process, as it happens in pip-zapping mode.

It seems related to the tuner switching in DVB S2 mode. I've tested it on Astra 19E tp 11 :

1 - I go to ZDF HD tuner A. Then zap to another channel, it switches to tuner B, and freezes. Zap again elsewhere, eveything is good.

2 - Zap to ZDF kultur HD, it comes back to tuner A and freezes. Zap everywhere among ZDFHD, ZDFneoHD, or ZDFHD, it stays on Tuner A. Everything is good.

3 - Zap from one of this channels to elsewhere, it switches to tuner B : it freezes.

This can be reproduced on ARD, SES, ORF, or SRG transponders,

I think this do not happen with DMM 3.2.4 software. I certainly would have noticed it, as this is a really annoying thing. Furthermore I watched a previous timed recording which is perfect.

Regards.

Anyway I am afraid I can't help you, as I don't experience this issue at all, never have.

I fixed it today. I went back to DMM's image...

So long, Pli. I will miss you. :(

Thanks,

I assume that dmm image uses the same drivers, and your hardware is still the same, so it's hard to believe that the problem won't occur with a DMM image?

Well, it doesn't indeed, I do not dream, believe me. It works fine.

What can I say ? I can't even ask DMM, they will tell me that third party images are not supported.

It's just one of those issues I hate. If someone can understand something ! And why it occurs only on DVB-S2 transponders, only on watching (simultaneous recordings are not affected). Who knows ?

I suppose one way to circumgo the problem would be to let the recorded channel locked to one tuner and to use the other tuner for watching, rather then switching back and forth.

Kind Regards.

Could you please check whether at least the tuner allocation orders are the same, when you do the same sequence on the DMM image?

If so, there is only one thing I can think of; perhaps they increased the dvb frontend disable delay, so while zapping with PiP the tuner does not have to switch its power off and back on?
Cause I'm quite sure that this is a hardware thing.

I will check it out and keep you informed.

I hardly understand how one tuner's power on could have an impact on the other tuner. If so, I agree with you, that would be a failure of the power supply. However on timed recordings, the second tuner starts and stops without impairing the first recording, and the display is switched if needed without any problem.

I must find a valid reason to send them the device back at least for checking. Do you think they are able to know from which image a recording has been made ?

The fact that I've never experienced it with my self-powered multiswitch really suggests a problem in this area as well.

I'm quite sure they will not base any conclusions on recordings which you've made.
They'd certainly want to be able to reproduce the exact issue.

BTW, back when I was using a dm8000 in my livingroom, I had similar issues (and before that, the same thing with a 7025).
One tuner affected the other more than the other way around, and also some transponder combinations lead to bigger issues than other combinations.
I've replaced my entire diseqc equipment, lnb's and cables, no improvement, eventually ended up using a multiswitch, which improved things quite a bit (but I could still see an occasional microfreeze).

Nowadays, I have a 9500 in the livingroom, still the same multiswitch, and I haven't seen any crossover effects between tuners ever since.

So, yes, I'd really be interested in what DMM did in their image, in order to work around this issue.

Hi,

It has no preferred tuner setting. While watching it uses tuner A ; every timed recording ocurring while watching uses tuner B, unless the recorded channel is on the same transponder as the watched one. Direct recordings and timed recordings while on standby use tuner A. So it seems to me that the tuner allocation is pretty much the same.

On PIP mode on the same channel, the PIP picture is curiously one second ahead of the main picture, probably but i'm not sure on the same tuner.

I've got an RMA. I explained the problem and the guy was very reactive ; he said it's probably hardware related. So I will send it back to DMM. If it is an hardware failure, it may be solved, if not the topic remains open !

I've never experienced such a thing with my old Technisat HD-S2+, but I am convinced that this is some kind of classical issue.

That is perfectly normal. I will vary every time you try it. The main picture must adjust to the audio stream timing, PiP doesn't need to and so the timing may differ.

I also see sometimes glitches in recordings. As far I know I see this only when there are services from one transponders and then you zap away and the second tuner mist be kicked in. But please note this is not always...

For verification I do not start recordings. I use the PIP zap... I can simulate it also by using blue, blue, then blue red and zap around in the PIP

I very rarely see it. I have to zap around a several times to see it in the PIPzap.... I saw it a few days ago when I was playing with the parental lock in pipzap.

And again I see it only when I zap away when two services did come from the same transponder... and the additional tuner is added...

It are the drivers that turn off/on the power supply to the lnbs
