Besides that, I think it's all about choice. Almost none of the users are interested in the source files and everybody who is, can install the src packages. That's what they're meant for...

normal users only need compiled packages with pyo files not with py files (sources)

it will help to reduce the image size and prevent compiling on the box

"Normal" users are now confused by seeing two packages in plugin management, one normal and one with -src in the name. And if they install -src, when they remove it the plugin is still installed because the pyo files are not deleted. src package should have both py and pyo or a proper uninstall script. How much space you think you are saving by removing high compressable text files? 1%?

I think what you did is wrong and I suggest reverting it.

Do what you want, but maybe a sold guy will decide not to backup any pyo with his tools anymore ... just to save lots of space in the backups and on the backup time - all for the benefits of the normal users off course

A really good image, with all the tools and goodies, does not need the new system to work well...

A normal or advanced user certainly does not need any emotional blackmail...

That is really unbecoming. You're on an Open Source board.

Remember that, for crying out loud...

Either give freely, like the rest or...

Did you get the sarkasm ?

I complained that taking away the sources from the image would make some users and some developers unhappy as there is no real need for this action and it simply causes more problems then it solves.

Then I was told that everybody can install the source files if he wants them (which I already knew, but anyway it is OK to point this out).

Then the source files are hidden from the Pluginbrowser for the normal user as a 'fix' which makes it even harder to get them on your box ...

What great idea comes next ?

I agree with gutemine.

In addition - I did not saw big diferences in free space on my dm800se with/without .py in plugins.

But when I wanted some quicky repair/changed - then I must a) install .src, B) go to PC with sources and copy it to box.

I don't know. really... I am an IT lay person. What I can do is install, configure well, write a good, thorough tutorial for a newbie and write a feedback to an author of a piece of SW etc. I can also help newbies and help organise etc. That's all.

But I'll tell you what I and many other could do without: I really do not need sarcasm and similar stuff, as I have no need for these petty mind-/power-games, since I think that "whose is bigger" is utterly unbecoming to a mature person! At least to my mind...

So, I would warmly recommend getting the chip on one's shoulder surgically removed and simply standing tall WITHOUT AGGRESSIVE, SUPERIORITY COMPLEX-DRIVEN POSTURING, sharing the info with all, just as others share freely with you and - peace!

Tribal/clan-like stuff is really immature and sad, in my mind... Either one has a rational argument and can deal with other's rational arguments or if one simply plays power games (read "ignores" others) - s/he can go take a walk on the wild side, as far as I am concerned.

Really, talk straight, help if you can - in the spirit of the hobby (the best ethos of these forums I can think of) - and if you do not want to do that, then go to kindergarden and measure yours against theirs and feel superiour...

Excuse, I wrote it bad ... I did not agree with any sarcasm, I did agree with existing .py in plugins.

Maybe you can help by say what is wrong.

Because it is easy to say something is not good without a why.
