From my experience: 500HD, for instance, is a very low memory machine and no SWAP means no EPG update...

a.) It was ages ago, when I first got the Vu+ UltimoDid you report the Rytec Data data that made crash your E2? I never encountered so far this problem. And if you really encountered this problem please report it so Rytec team can check what happens... but perhaps that the crash that you have came from... CrossEPG...
b.) Ever since then there have been more dramatic problems, none of them being investigated and only those being fixed that I fixed myself (OpenWebif).
In other words:
From my experience, reporting problems in anything Linux-based is as relevant as a bag of rice falling over in China.
Need examples?
- Ubuntu 12.04 is ignoring IPv6 privacy "extension" settings. There is a fix for the network manager which is causing this, but Ubuntu still uses the old, buggy version.
- E2 freeze when accessing network shares on machines that were rebooted after mount
- intermittent picture artefacts on Vu+ Ultimo that are not caused by signal problems (Just rewind and the same position of a recording/timeshift plays well)
- ...
And in this specific case, I'm even sure it had something to do with non-EPG-safe characters or something like that. I know the Humax iCord HD had the very same problem (Freeze when opening the EPG) at that time, resulting from special markers within the EPG on some stations and concerning TV series.
It always froze when the "Desperate Housewives" became visible. The iCord obviously couldn't handle some internal representation of the [8/22] (episode 8 out of 22) information.
To make this clear: Neither xmltv-import nor CrossEPG crashed!
It was the resulting EPG that made the box freeze or crash (Not sure anymore) when being opened. So obviously the crash was caused by improper contents within the XML data, which were stripped out or fixed on creation of the XEPGDB data but not by the XML parsers of xmltv-import or CrossEPG.
If the EPG got overwritten by the over-the-air EPG before you could crash the box by viewing the EPG, the box wouldn't crash either ...
So if devs can't fix problems that everybody can reproduce any time (network share freeze), how are they supposed to fix problems that are barely reproducable?

Hi,
I follow the section Rytec of this board and many times due to CrossEPG bugs the advice is to uninstall CrossEPG and replace it with xmltvimport and each time this indeed fix the problem of the end-user.
(exemple: CrossEPG doesn't take into account the namespace to write the EPG data in memory so this lead to conflict between channels).
So questions:
- Why Openpli feed still propose CrossEPG if we know that this gives issues?
- Why not remove CrossEPG and leave only xmltvimport (perhaps with a kind of redirection from CrossEPG to xmltvimport in the feed if possible)?
Pr2
As of today Cross has been completely overhauled; so maybe give that version a chance?

Hmmm... SifTeam CrossEPG 0.7.0 + git366+89b5751 is the new default version used in OpenVix image.... maybe it is available on the SifTeam website? The e2openplugins source is here https://github.com/E...plugin-CrossEPG

Just saw a thread (on the topic) on this forum (in another section) and went over to ViX forum, which I haven't been to in a while...
This is to tell us that it's "being worked on", as it were, if I understood correctly - not that it has been done yet...
Anyone?

Vix build 775 has it embedded... this is still a 'beta' image but the new crossEPG works fine for me (Australian Optus C1 satellite at 156E).
So it seems it is done. Not able to test your previous problems with crossEPG.
