But why not make it configurable under EPG Settings? :)

Good question, that was my point, it should be there.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

It looks like it's in "/etc/enigma2/settings". Add a line "config.misc.epgcachepath=/media/usb/" for path and/or "config.misc.epgcache_filename=/media/usb/epg.dat" for filename. But i think filename is not needed only path. Not sure if it needs a reboot.

the only relevant one is

config.misc.epgcache_filename=/media/usb/epg.dat

The GUI should only be a path selection (similar to recording paths), as the name MUST be epg.dat.

See screenie taken from another image (options to change name as well as location). Changing the name can be handy if you have multiple boxes.
The automated refresh and save options you see in the same screenie are meant for using the same epg-file for multiple boxes.

If you change the name, Enigma itself can still work with it. But all other tools and plugins (that hardcode the epg.dat filename) will fail.  So if this change is added, compatibility needs to be verified.

Personally I don't really see a use-case for multiple names, since it's only intermediate storage while Enigma restarts. And that shouldn't happen on shared media anyway (see my previous remark).

But why not make it configurable under EPG Settings? :)

Because there's hardly any use case for changing it - the epg.dat file is only written at shutdown (and your disk is likely to spin up anyway at that point), and NEVER during normal operation.

The current logic is that it will place the epg.dat on a local harddisk if you have one, or in internal flash otherwise, if there's enough free space. Placing it on a network drive doesn't really have any added value - it's only written on shutdown, so you must shutdown the 'master' EPG box if you want another box to pick it up. Placing it on a USB stick is just silly, the harddisk is faster.

The reason for being able to configure epg.dat's location is "because I can", or even worse "because other images can". It doesn't justify extending the already way too long list of settings with yet another option that only a select few will ever use.

@MiLo: If you think this way, it needs only an "on" and an "off" button. :D

3) Menu -> Setup -> System -> Network -> MountManager -> Mountpoints management -> ok to edit a mount point. Go to "Mount options" and try to edit it (rw,nolock,tcp...). I can only write numbers from 0-9 and no letters (like a old mobile phone).

Yes, it seems, for vuultimo RC in sms mode it write numbers only. You can use Teletext button for turn on keyboard on screen or use second side of RC.

Isn't this what it is all about? Point is that there is no option to place it somewhere else?

I know of several people having several boxes all without internal HDD and recording to a NAS.
In general it is not wise to have epg.dat in flash, as it sometimes happens that this file grows very big (sometimes it gets corrupt). So in that case it is wise to use that NAS as location for epg.dat.
So that explains the logic for having the option to set the location as well as the name.

In this case it can be handy to have only one box actually importing EPG (e,g, from Open-TV & XMLVT, plus several EIT when tuned to a service.
For this case it is handy to have the option to save the data regularly (say once an hour), so any of the other boxes starting up at any time, can get the up-to-date data from that file.

After an update last days i get now always a greenscreen when zap to "RTL HD". Then the box crashs and loops. Box boots, rtl hd is comming, 5 sec and again greenscreen.

The only way is to quickly zap to another channel or remove the data cable.

What's wrong?

After updating today i get the greenscreen also on other channels. Watching TV is not possible now :(

What are you doing? Please stop it!!! ;)

Edit: After removing openwebif it works again. So it's related to openwebif.

The openwebif bug is gone, but switching to rtl hd still ends in a GSOD. :(

There is now also another bug that appeared between the 27th and 30th

Now instead of getting the tune failed message if theres no signal from a particular transponder, you get GSOD instead,no message, just green screen.

Ian.

Thx ian,

but i don't think its the message "tune failed". The picture is ok, but then i get a GSOD.

If i look in the log it seems like it's related to hbbtv.

Tomorrow i remove the hbbtv plugin and see what happens.
