If all goes well, tomorrow's build will have a new "C" library. That won't mean much to most end users, but the result is that most, if not all, packages have been rebuilt, and will be upgraded. This will result in something like 300 packages being upgraded if you chose to do that.

Since one of the components being upgraded will be the networking system itself, the upgrade is likely to fail halfway through because it cannot download things while the network was being reset (a problem in the package manager that may have been fixed now). Don't worry, just wait for the reboot and re-run the upgrade. You might even need to repeat this.

I guess at this point, it'd be faster to just re-flash the box, than to run the online upgrade. But hey, that's for you to decide.

PS: Running the upgrade from a telnet or ssh session will fail horriby, since telnet and ssh will be upgraded too, causing the upgrade process to be killed rather suddenly. Running it from the GUI is likely to restore that.

A different but sane idea IMHO, as a new version (looking back at the various responses to the update from 3 to 4) has some magical ring to it that many users can't resist.

Which way would you recommend ?

GUI option 1 or 2 ?

There is no update today, because of an error.

So new images when error resolved and there are no other errors stopping the build ...

“C” library update causes massive package updates

For today’s build we have upgraded the “C” library. Since this is used in virtually every component of the image, it will cause an update of over 300 packages. Because this includes the packages for network services, ssh and telnet, upgrading via the commandline is not an option, since during the update process, you will […]

When updating via the GUI, make sure to choose the “update offline and reboot” option. After the reboot, run the update again, until there are no more updated packages left.

flashing is a safer option, just my opinion

Flashed and restored UNO and no issues observed.

Found one issue: when trying to de-install plugins (webbrowser --> red) I get a message 'no new plugins found'. Not sure if this is related to 'the big upgrade', but I didn't notice this issue before.
