I think you need to have 50 (or something like that) posts until you see the quote button.

I think you need to have 50 (or something like that) posts until you see the quote button.

Members get promoted from "member" to "senior member" when they get to 25 posts. It is a function for senior members only.

We had to introduce this measure because in the past some people started to create dummy accounts and then up-voted themselfs...

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Why should it do 4:2:2 if it does HEVC?
UHD blu-ray will do HEVC but that is only 4:2:0.

H264 (AVC) can also do 4:2:2 (even 4:4:4), but it's not a requirement, nor is it for h265 (HEVC).

Welcome to the world of the "tools" of MPEG, in other words, the optional features of codecs. And yes, there are MANY. That's why you have levels and profiles.

4:2:2 will never be available from a Broadcom chip. 4:2:2 is considered a "professional equipment" option so it is not used for end-user SoC.

But wouldn't the bandwidth required for 4:2:2 with 10 bit colour, 2160p@60 Hz exceed the 18 gbps of HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2?

A workaround for 4:2:2 would include streaming such a satellite feed to a computer, then opening it with MPC, VLC or other suitable player and then streaming it back to the box in order to watch it on TV instead of a computer.
i wonder if someone could some time find a quick way to perform these operations.

Well I got the "quote" as you see.

I´m talking about "thank you" -button....

Still not here.

But thanks to you all!

If you need the pc anyway where´s the benefit than...?

It should be capable on it´s on with out the pc so it would be interesting.

My problem here is that if I want to see 4:2:2 i basicly need to buy a new pc ´cos the old one is just too damn slow to play it smoothly. :(

Especially if you wanna use some "better" deinterlace like Yadif(2x)...

Sorry, I meant the thank you button and WanWizard clarified that you need to have 25 posts until you see it (and now you have only 16).

If anyone can actually describe the real benefits of this new box I will appreciate it.

Since I don`t find any new benefit with this new 4K box except the 2 x FBC DVB-S2X tuners.

The rest is already done by cheaper hardware (for example Amlogic S812 based)

I actually meant S905 which also doing 10bit HVEC decoding same as the BCM7252.

The older S812 only does 8bit. Still big difference 50 USD Android box vs. EUR 500

Add Openelec support to the Amlogic...and you got a winner.

==============================================================================

this works all done on the fly

start recording the 4:2:2  to vu  /hdd

covert recording on the fly with ffmpeg save again to vu /hdd

play back

looks as good as original

ffmpeg -i /hdd/movie/instantrecord.ts -f lavfi -i aevalsrc=0 -shortest -c:v libxvid -qscale:v 2 -c:a copy /hdd/movie/instantrecord.mp4

just to add to the above

if the recording name has spaces

then the input path and file name must be in quotes

like

ffmpeg -i "/hdd/movie/20151105 1254 - 4:2:2 - feed - football.ts" -f lavfi -i aevalsrc=0 -shortest -c:v libxvid -qscale:v 2 -c:a copy /hdd/movie/instantrecord.mp4
