This is mostly for some old plugins. Softcams would not run anyway, since this box is arm.

Actually till yestrerday OpenPLi enigma2 was still reading that file, without any reason (just to detect dm7025). But VU+ enigma2 (dvbapp) still requires that.

The Box is great, but i really miss my OpenPli build, not a fan of VTI. Are there any ideas when such image might be ready ? And can i somehow help with building one even though im not a programmer ?

The box will be great in a couple of months, when most driver issues will be resolved and all advertised features work. I guess at about that timeframe, OpenPLi 5 might exist for VU+ Solo 4K.

Don't forget we are talking VU+ here...

 

i.e. don't forget that VU 'forgets' to fix issues that are in their drivers for 5 years in spite of their repeated promise to fix them.....

Well, some bugs are just annoying and some are show stoppers. If a user upgrades today from his VU+ Solo2 to VU+ Solo 4K, he will gain:

1. FBC tuners, more options on recording.

2. Capability to playback some 4K demo channels and 4K HEVC content downloaded from the internet.

3. A bit faster response on channel change and boot times

And he will loose:

1. SD scaling quality

2. blindscan

3. transcoding

4. compatibility with emus

5. H264 media playback with high ref. count

6. USB DVB-T compatibility

and 7 and most important: OpenPLi support

 

1,2,3,5 and 6 should be solvable with driver updates. 7 needs determination from VU+ to get supported by OpenPLi. The only unfixable issue is 4.

CCcam has ARM binaries too. But this is a good time to get rid of that old stuff.

I have just got the Solo 4k(One day only) coming from this streak :-) :
DM 7000 -> DM800 -> DM800 SE -> Gigablue Quad -> VU+ Solo 4K

From what I tested with BH image, I can say about your concerns:

 

1. SD scaling quality - yes it seemed a little off, but I blamed non being able to uninstall video enhancement settings. I used to get the same result using OpenPLI image on my GigaBlue. Not a big problem, but glad to hear it can get better with new drivers

2. blindscan - I saw the plugin installed but didn't test it. Useful only for feed hunters, but not a big loss if missing.

3. transcoding - I do not use it, but given the powerful CPU it should be easy

4. compatibility with emus - OSCam is more than enough and I had the impression that it was much faster on VU+

5. H264 media playback with high ref. count - Don't know what it is, if you explain better I can test

6. USB DVB-T compatibility - Got Dual DVB-T2/C tuner working like charm. Why do I need a USB tuner? Don't remind me of the days with DM800 :-)

and 7 and most important: OpenPLi support - And this is the most important piece I'm missing too. VU+ as any other important receiver producer should really be grateful to the wonderful job the OpenPLI has done and is doing for the lovers of this hobby. Waiting forward for the OpenPLI release for Solo 4K.

 

P.S. I really do not like the remote of Solo 4K. The missing buttons around the wheel (Menu, EPG, Audio, Video) is a senseless choice. Not glad with the positioning, too (but I can get used to it). Also bad click and (maybe a fault only on my remote) the up button needs to be pressed harder than the down one :-(

@albsky: USB DVB-T compatibility is good to have, since it is technically possible and older boxes like VU+ Solo2 (which is the previous box in the Solo series) support it. Someone upgrading from Solo2 to Solo4K might already have a twin DVB-T tuner (like I do), why he has to buy the module? And even if he buys the module, more tuners are always welcomed, especially since this box can record up to 15 streams.

 

H264 media playback with high ref. count => VU+ Solo 4K is unable to correctly playback H.264 encoded files that exceed Level 4.1 profile of H.264. While level 4.1 is enough for satellite transmissions, there are many downloaded files that exceed this profile, having 8 or 9 reference frames in Full HD (profile 4.1 defines up to 4). VU+ Solo2 can playback those files correctly, so the upgraded VU+ Solo 4K should as well.

 

Blindscan utility is there but doesn't work.

 

Transcoding is an advertised feature but still not available. Eventually it will be available, but not now.

 

As for the emus, I don't want to get any technical but there are conditions where OSCAM is not enough and other emus deliver what you want.

Indeed it has, they are MSB ARM architecture thus incompatible with VU+ Solo 4K which is an LSB ARM architecture.

Albsky: transcoding is a hardware feature. It has nothing to do with the speed of the CPU.

The ARM CPU has good multimedia support (if they also bought the NEON with it) and should be capable of decoding various streams in software. That might be interesting for playing internet content. Getting its output into the video channel might be chalenging though.
