i use it with openatv. you have to install ffmpeg as well in order to use it. i did remove a couple of elogs and edebugs because of lots of io messages during exteplayer3 is running. nevertheless i guess openatv dont want to include this feature for unknown reasons.

Finally got around to giving this a go, and have successfully built a working atv image

from what I can gather it looks like your recipes should go in 'recipes-local',

but to be honest I haven't got a clue, so if you could help me out here it will be very much appreciated

Yes, you can put directory serviceapp which contains recipes to recipes-local, you can get some clues how to build it in first post of this topic.

They can be played, you just have to build ffmpeg with right options

Yes, rtmp streams are working. If audio is played it means there should be no problem with rtmp protocol, can you share a link?
