I guess he expects to see harddisk and root as accessable maps when he opens his network places in his windows explorer. When he double clicks the maps the tree-structure of enigma wil show. Don't you think so?

Exactly.

I have tryed to relaunch the network on my vu+ and i have exactly the same problem.

Ancient thread.

You wrote you restored a backup. Did you make any modification to the smb.conf while on OpenPLi 4? 6.0-release runs a much more modern version of samba, and the config isn't 100% compatible, so that could be the cause of Samba not starting.

To verify, press menu, select information, about, press the yellow button, press right until you get to "Troubleshoot - ps". Do you see "/usr/sbin/smbd" in the list?

Needed to find a Windows PC, but If I go into explorer and type "\\hd2400" (or \\<ipaddress>), I get the share list without any issues.

By telnet / root :

- error on the first line opkg...

- the rest is ok but no access to the vu+ by a PC / Windows Explorer.

Yes, i retored only the paramters of the 6.0 RC, after the flash of the 6.0 Stable

Impossible to find "Troubleshoot - ps".

I have installed Dream-Explorer and i have "usr/sbin/smbd"

I asked me if don't restored the 6.0 RC ?

Then you didn't do what I wrote.

Press the menu button. Select "Information", select "About". Press the yellow button ("Troubleshoot"). Press right to cycle through the troubleshoot screens until you get to "ps":

Attached File  1_0_19_5225_C99_3_EB0000_0_0_0.jpg   136.38KB   16 downloads

It is not relevant if you have the file, it is relevant if the process runs. Which the screen above will show you.

Samba starts automatically if it is installed. So if it doesn't run, changes are it is because an unsupported config.

You can check in /var/log/log.smbd and /var/log/log.nmbd to see if there is an error message. If the log files aren't there either, it might not be installed. To check that, you need to login and issue the command

opkg list samba

it should reply with the details of the package, with status

Status: install ok installed

it is still the same , and windows troubleshooting say " The device or resource (VUDUO2) is not configured to accept connections to the "File and Printer Sharing (SMB)" port."

there's no log in var/log/samba and opkg list samba give me that "samba - 4.4.5-r0.0 - samba version 4.4.5-r0 samba version 4.4.5-r0" but no status

Ok, so it is installed. Good. Next check, see if it is running:

root@hd2400:~# ps | grep mbd
  540 root     31372 S    /usr/sbin/smbd
  542 root     29916 S    {smbd-notifyd} /usr/sbin/smbd
  543 root     29916 S    {cleanupd} /usr/sbin/smbd
  545 root     20600 S    /usr/sbin/nmbd
 1278 root      2784 S    grep mbd

You should see both "smbd" and "nmbd". If it is not running, check the logs files "/var/log/smbd.log" and "/var/log/nmbd.log" for error messages. If nothing obvious, try if you can start samba by hand:

/etc/init.d/samba.sh start

and see if that gives you an error message.
