This week-end I've installed VTI image to test the HDMI IN function. And with this image, I could have a good picture (in 720 p  ) but no sound. It's better but not usable. I've tried the Vu+ stock image but it didn't want to restart. It trapped when it tried to restart. I tried it 2 times and I stop it after 10~15 minutes with a "loading" message.

The only advantage of the stock image is that it loaded the standard Vu+ boot picture (Vu+ on blue sreen) while VTI installed VTI on black screen. Pli flashes didn't removed it. Do somebody know where is this picture and why a flash didn't change it?

Thank you :) .

To restore a particular bootup screen, for example the original Vu+, there is no need to flash an entire image, but only the file

splash_cfe_auto.bin

To do so you need to prepare a pendrive with the original Vu+ image, then delete all files except the splash_cfe_auto.bin file.

Then flash as usual, your current image will remain untouched, only the bootup screen will be changed.

We don't mess with the splash image since it is the manufacturers logo. Some image builders have bigger ego's, and need both the splash image and the boot image after that do show their name...

Yes I was not very happy with this new picture. Thank you for the different responses :) .

But the 2 answers are not so different, as WanWizard actually pointed out that OpenPLi doesn't install a customized bootup (i.e. splash) screen as other image do, but it leaves the original manufacturer's one.

To restore the Vu+ original bootup screen the easiest way is to flash only the Vu+ picture file within the USB pendrive.

Yes, that's why I thanked you and WanWizard ;) .

I have only to put the Vu+ picture file on the root of the key? Because in standard, the flash path is "vu+/ultimo4k/files" and the box doesn't flash without this complete path.

What do you call "right folder path"? The same as a standard flash?

Yes, exactly the same USB folder structure as for flashing an image.

But only with that file inside.

Ok, thank you :) .

There is a différence with BachupSuite : the path is not the same if we use an USB key or if we use the disk. With the USB key, we need "vu+/ultimo4k". With the disk, it's "ultimo4k".

I know but it seems to be impossible or very hard to do it with a Vu+  .

I played around a bit with recording the HDMI-In on a Mutant HD2400.

A recording is made.  And plays back.  However no sound as reported above.

So, I started to investigate the recording.

The picture is being stored as 1280x720.  No surprise here.

The audio is a different matter.

Gstreamer reports an audio track as AAC

extplayer3 reports the audio track as LPCM

Sending the file through mediainfo on the PC give this report:

General
ID                                       : 0 (0x0)
Complete name                            : Z:\Opnames\20191210 1606 - HDMI-Input - instant record.ts

Stream size                              : 293 MiB (95%)

The audio is not detected.

Tried to convert the .ts file to an mkv file, but MKVtoolnix does not recognize the file.

Tried to recode the file with ffmpeg,  No problem with the picture, but the sound is either seen as AAC or A-DTS.

The results is again a sound track which is silence.

So not much of a success there.

Searched the net to extract the audio stream out of a .ts file.  (To examine the audio stream separately) but I could not find how to do this.

Does somebody know how to do this?

I got it working on ViX/ET10k a couple of years ago, but never needed it in the end (new chimney stack meant the terrestrial aerial was under threat).

I'll see if I can find out what I did - (it'll already be on the ViX forum).

Is it this?

Looks correct and my understanding is that to bypass encryption/hand shaking issues should go via a hdmi splitter. Also cannot watch and record - must be on different channel when timer recording starts on hdmi In.

Hello Willy,

As you have seen, the record is in 720p, it's not very good. Then, even if you can record well, the picture will not be good. For this reason, I've bought an Androïd box which have an HDMI IN and can record in 4K, and a splitter. It's a Zidoo X9S and it works very well :) .

Yes. There's another thread somewhere (more to do with the splitter), I was looking for it yesterday, but only found that one.

I was using a fire tv, and have a feeling I had to tweak its audio settings, but I can't be sure.

Found it: https://www.world-of...ll=1#post418560

I did make an bouet entry:

#SERVICE 1:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:http%3a//hd2400%3a8001/8192%3a0%3a1%3a0%3a0%3a0%3a0%3a0%3a0%3a0%3a?bitrate=4000000&width=1280&height=720&aspectratio=2&interlaced=0:HDMI-In (Transcoded)
#DESCRIPTION HDMI-In (Transcoded)

As you see I am configuring the the transcoding chip for video with some settings I found in the owif.  However nothing for the sound.

A recording made with this bouquet entry is acceptable picturewise.  But again no sound.  Not surprisingly as I did not define anything.

Does somebody know the syntax for configuring the transcoding chip/driver for the sound stream?

I don’t know whether it works or not, but give it a try. Create new bouquet entry like this:
#SERVICE 8192:0:1:0:0:0:0:0:0:0:
#DESCRIPTION Xtrend HDMI 2 Input

Then switch to different channel and reboot the box. Then create a timer for hdmi channel in the channel list. But don’t switch first to hdmi channel and press record button. Instead create timer via timer menu or webif. During the recording don’t switch to hdmi channel.
I think for et10000 this was the trick. Maybe it also works on similar hd2400.
