Hi,

first of all thank you for the amazing work.

I've been using an openpli image for a long time, on a Zgemma Star H2 before and a Zgemma H7C now. The only issue i'm having (on the H7C) is that during reboot (during the update or complete reboot) the decoder gets stuck in reboot (display: BOOT) and does nothing. If I remove the usb flash drive (Used for recordings), turn off the decoder and back on, it boots smoothly.

If I turn off the decoder and back on with the usb still in, it doesn't boot. It happens with every one of the 3 usb ports in the back (2x usb2 + 1x usb3)

If I remove the flash drive before rebooting, I have no issues at all.

The usb flash drive is 32GB, NTFS fyle system. It's the same I was using with the Star H2 and never had any issues there.

I bought the H7C at the beginning of september, if you need to know the first time that has happened.

It's a problem with the decoder or it's software related?

Image version: OpenPLi 6.2 20181029 (Last clean install: beginning of september)

thank you

If it gets stuck in boot, it is most likely a bootloader issue, that chokes on the NTFS filesystem. Why would you use NTFS on a linux box?

because with ntfs, recording doesn't stop if the file size reaches 4GB. I never had any issues with the zgemma star H2 and the same nfts usb flash drive.

I've tried now to initialize the flash drive from the setup in ext4, rebooted and the decoder got stuck again in boot.

Then it's not the filesystem, must be an incompatibility in the bootloader. Do you also have it with other USB devices, or only this flash drive? What flash drive exactly is it?

Perhaps other H7 owners can check too? We need a bit of confirmation before we can pass this on to the manufacturer.

i have a powered 8tb ntfs drive in the usb3 port, a 2tb internal sata drive, and 8gb fat32 usb stick all connected without issue

Are you using multiboot ?? What image is in startup  ?? I have had a corruption issue before but never the boot issues your describing.

Just a thought.... your little button under the front flap is not stuck is it ?? The one normally used during reflash

Even with a simple memory stick? Or only with USB connected disks?

I don't confirm this bug.

Even with usb-sticks inserted in all usb-ports it just boots fine.

And why use NTFS for that purpose, why not ext4?

I made the same remark. In #5, the response was that it also hangs in boot with ext4.

That would be very strange indeed. The NTFS implementation uses userfs, while ext4 support is native in the kernel.

If it's a bootloader problem, I don't find it strange. And by the way USB sticks can have partitions or not. Maybe the bootloader cannot handle that.

If it is a bootloader issue, we should be able to reproduce it, there aren't that many permutations (partitions yes/no, small or large, memory or disk, externally powered yes/no, file system used).

Problem solved, it was an incompatibility with the usb flash drive brand: Toshiba 32GB usb3:

s-l300.jpg

I replaced it with a kingston usb3 flash drive and I had no more issues.

thanks to everyone for the replies and support.
