Hello. I've been succesfully running movieplayer with VLC 0.8.6i. When i try to run with 0.9.x , i have acccess to the share on the pc, so the interface is working!, i can select the movie, but then it doens't appear "buffering" and the movie doesn't start to play. If i revert back to 0.8.6i, everything is working fine.

Are there any issues with the new versions of vlc which i unaware of ?

If yes, is there any workaround ?

Thank you.

It doesn't work on 0.9.x yet. VLC has changed some things compared to 0.8.6 just a few days before we released the PLi Jade Final image.

We don't even know the exact solution. It should also work on the older VLC releases of course.

0.9.4 works on my 7025 but you have to change the ".hosts" file on your pc to enable the web interface to work.

The .hosts file resides on the pc. It tells VLC what local IP addresses it is permitted to talk with. It is in the VLC folder [the path is described in the wiki link above]. Within that folder there is also an folder called "old". In there there is a .hosts file that will give access to all IP addresses. I used it to replace the .hosts in the VLC folder. I did this as I'm using vista on the pc and it strugles with files without a filename.

If you can edit your .hosts file just put in the ip address of your dreambox in. You will see there are examples already in there but they are commented out by putting a # at the start of the line.

Thanks gezz for the reply,

I have copied the old file over the new .hosts file but no luck yet with streaming. the browsing of the files works but displaying the movie is not.

it is working perfectly with 0.8.6i but i need 0.9.x LTR subtitles capabilties.

I have DM 600

your help and comments are highly appreciated.

I think you guys are confusing the issues.

In the webif on all E1 boxes no matter what version of VLC you have you can click on the VPID link and start a VLC session via the .m3u file - this works fine even without changing the .hosts file as it already has localhost or 127.0.0.1 defined.

The issue is that with any version of VLC 0.9.x web-x-tv on the e1 boxes webif will not work even if you change the host files or otherwise.

@jonc: The movieplayer is about playing movies (divx, avi, mpeg4) on a dreambox by transcoding them by with vlc. Vlc needs the .hosts file to allow access from the dreambox.

Excellent

I have done some tests yesterday with VLC 0.9.4 and here are results:
1) after adding my IP of my box to the host file, streaming from PC to box with movieplayer is working OK
2)streaming to PC with webxtv does not work
3)streaming to PC by vpid link (.m3u) is working OK
so after all I came back to 0.8.6
regards

I also have it working with a DM7000i and Ubuntu running VLC 0.93.

I changed the .hosts file in /usr/share/vlc/http so that the following line was uncommented

192.168.0.0/16

I run my network on this and then rebooted vlc.

I was able to browse and kick off a avi file for viewing on my dreambox.

However, I cannot stop a movie cleanly without crash the vlc player on my ubuntu.

So it is quite flaky.

However, having said that, I am able to view my movies better than I could with 0.8x. My Desktop is very old and I think that perhaps 0.9x works more efficiently. Otherwise I had something badly configured on my 0.7x set up.

thanks
