I have VU+ Zero 4K and the max vtuner count is 4 (2 or 4 is the default for many reveivers). How can I increase it to 8? I want to compile my own openpli image, but what settings do I need to edit in the source code?

I have 8 satip servers - as a quick fix I'm using minisatip as satip proxy with "virtual disqcq". But I want to connect directly 8 vtuner to 8 satip server (not at the same time offcourse)

As far I know this is something we cannot do... as it is driver related....

Isn't it also limited to the amount of demuxers are available, so it may be hardware limited too?

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Pro (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

vtuner is a software tuner - why is it hardware limited?

I know that Dreambox one has physically only 1 tuner inside but virtually 24 vtuner... How so?

Theoretically the only limit can be CPU/newtork. You can have n+1 vtuner but you can not use them all at the same time. How many you can use at the same time depends on the cpu and network speed.

When I compile new image, then also the drivers will be recompiled...? Or the drivers source code is closed?

A tuner delivers an entire transponder, so you need a demuxer to get the required channel out of the stream. And those are implemented in the SoC, not in software.

And yes, driver source is closed, they are supplied by the manufacturer as .ko files.

Is there out any tuner where the source code is not closed and it is possible to edit vtuner count?

You would then probably have to patch the kernel accordingly.
But you should know beforehand how the driver patches the kernel.
But if you want to test, then you just do it via try & error

Don't you run out of demuxes when you add too many?

mhh.

sure....
You would have to expand, but I thought it was more about the limitation on the part of the driver.

There are some receivers where virtual tuners are in principle possible, or more than specified.
Only the driver or the old kernel limits it.
Expanding tuners via USB would also always be conceivable.
But of course these are always gimmicks that have to be made by those who feel like doing it.

The fact that more than 4 virtual tuners are possible has been activated there.

So the question arises which image is on the box?
Actually, the zero4k should provide 8 virtual tuners with develop.
Is it also possible that I'm completely wrong?

1) You need at least one hardware tuner for every frequency you want to receive from simultaneously.

2) You need at least as many demuxes as hardware tuners.

3) You can check how many demuxes you have by looking in "/dev/dvb/adapter0".

4) No idea what you mean "a software tuner". If you want to tune a frequency you need hardware.

A vtuner is a virtual tuner, like one added by a satip client.

It behaves in all respects as a tuner physically present, hence my remark that you need a demuxer for it. Which means the number of vtuners is limited to the number of demuxes minus the number of installed and activated local tuners.

I think we all mean exactly the same thing ;)

I thought the solo4k with fbc has 8 dmuxers and should therefore potentially also be able to enable 8 virtual tuners.
If you also connect a USB tuner, there can be more.

In the solo4K with internal DVB-S2X FBC and one double DVB-C NIM(TT3L10) I have a total of 15 demux from 0 to 14. Tuner goes from A to J so 10 tuners for 15 demux.

It is a Zero, so 1 hardware tuner, not FBC. And you can't connect more USB tuners unless there are sufficient demuxes to support them.

Not sure what you guys mean by virtual tuner. Any time I have heard "virtual tuner" it refers to a USB.

If you have a sat-ip server for 8 clients, running that at maximum capacity will require 8 hardware tuners, (or one FBC tuner). There is no way to avoid this hardware limitation in software.

The vtuner is what is created on the client side, so for example with a sat-ip client. So a "virtual" tuner as opposed to a "real" tuner.
