Hi,

I'm new here. Lot of people recommand using Pli images, so I want to five it a try.
I have a DM500s. Right now I'm using EDG-Nemesis 4.4. A great image, but missing something very important : the streaming doesn't work to pay TV.
It is working with FTA channels.
I have 2 questions:

I know that pli image include zapstream. Is it working well with pay tv?

Does Gbox working well with this image?

Does these images include iptables, so I can make a firewall script?
Thanks in advance.

Streaming does indeed work fine, but has nothing to do with pay tv or whatsoever. Just the bitrate of the broadcast is important. So, just try it and see if it works.

Gbox is possible if you download "softcams/older softcams/gbox in menu". We did not do anything special to let it work and we don't give any support. We don't even discuss it here (see forum rules) as the gbox creators whished.

IPtables is standard included, including a basic firewall script.

I've tried Pli Jade Maxvar and what I can say is : AMAZING!!!!
The best of the best and really, the best image for streaming with the fantastic zapstream! (zapstream works great with the latest VLC 0.9.8a)
It's just missing one important thing for me: iptables. How can I add it to the image?

Iptables is in the non-maxvar image. We didn't add it to the downloads (yet). I will check which files you need.

Or may be I should try the non-maxvar image.. I have some questions about this:

What are the main differences between the two images?

How much space remain in the /var partition?

What about performance? Is the max-var version more performant than the other?
Thanks in advance.

Excellent

the difference is the larger var space, in maxvar its 1Mb i believe,
therefore we needed to remove some tools in the image wich you can read in the earlier releasenotes...

on the Glassfibre 1GB DVB-C...

I've found the maxvar version extremely stable....works excellent with streaming on my dm500 both internally and externally via the web. PLI Jade release maxvar is rock solid when it comes to stability!

Do you think it is more stable than the normal PLi Jade release? Because there shouldn't be a difference in stability between the normal and the maxvar version.

I think :
less features=less processes= more performances.

But I can't find the removed features between normal and maxvar edition(except iptables)
DM500s with PLi Jade MaxVar and XLine2 skin

From the releasenotes:
The following packages where moved to the downloads in the maxvar image: MV EPG plugin, Mediapli_8 skin, CCcam SoftCam, Cables/Terrestrial.xml, Translations, Games, traceroute, nslookup, IPtables and the Netfilter drivers.

But let me rephrase my question: Did someone experience that the maxvar image is more stable (except in case of full /var issues) than the normal PLi Jade?
