A VU+ Zero doesn't have built-in wifi.
And it doesn't make any sense that the menu shows the WLAN interface (and even knows it's an MT7601U), while at the same time "ifconfig" doesn't show the interface (which i where the menu gets its information).
If those two bits of information (the screenshot and the ifconfig ouput) are from the same moment (i.e. with the same OpenPLI config and the same drivers installed), then I want to see you right away, as I have more magic that I want to happen! 
So either there is something fishy going on with the information presented, or you have achieved the impossible.
Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

I'm at work right now but I have total access to my LAN through a VPN...
As I told you I'm as quite as ??? as you because as I had already mentioned on this topic, I had already paired a VU+ zero with this same type of pen wifi and without any problem... just connected the pen to the USB port, reboot and then the wifi menu was there as normal...
It is possible that this version of the receiver Rev.2 has something to do with this? Cos the other Vu+ zero that I paired with a similar wifi pen was not a Rev.2...
Just ask me which commands do you wanna for me to run and I paste here the respective outputs... I think the date and hour appear on them...

Afaik the only difference between the rev1 and rev2 is updated drivers because the rev2 has a different tuner chipset.
When you get back home and have access to the box, can you do the following:
- make sure you have installed the mt7601u kernel module and the mt7601usta firmware
- switch the box off
- disconnect the wifi stick
- switch the box on
- login with telnet or ssh
- issue the command "dmesg --clear"
- plug the wifi stick back in
- issue the command "dmesg" and post the output here
- issue the command "ifconfig" and post the output here

Ah, busybox has a stripped function list. Not really important, it was intended to make the output shorter.
But: we now know the the problem. your stick isn't an MT7601U at all, it is an RT2870, which is detected fine, but probably doesn't initialize due to missing firmware.
So start by trying:

Both on the original box of the wifi pen and on the oficial octagon website it says clearly – Chipset: MT7601U 
Reagrding the command you say...it doesn't work

opkg install firmware-rt2870
It happens all the time with low-cost no-brand chinese stuff, they use chipsets that are available and cheap at the moment of manufacture.
Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)
Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

There might be another option: the detection and loading of the rt2870 driver based on that detection is wrong.
Run
lsmod | grep -e rt5 -e rt2
and post the output please.

mt7601Usta is the correct driver. I'm starting to get out of idea's....

I've double checked, we use the same source code to build the mt7601u drivers as other images do.

and afaik the box doesn't support rfkill.
