In my specific situation there are medical reasons for this. My wife does not handle change very well and what always worked it a certain way should remain like it was. In her opinion.

Maybe we have to keep the white text color and to darked a bit the gray color....And for the current program to keep the dark blue

The problem in the GMEPG is the choice to have the navigation menu in GREY.  Normally, the cursor should highlight the selection where it is and in the skin it is just the opposite.

You can leave the Green as before, but please turn the current selected cursor location into BLUE for exemple. So that just by looking at the screen we can immediately find where the cursor is.

 

Browse the GMEP have your attention to something return to the TV Screen I coudl not find where the cursor is, this is really painfull.

 

Small game: where is the cursor (and it is not the hardest one):

Turn it into BLUE and we will saw it immediately.

 

Sometimes it's really complicated to know where it is. GREY on DARK the contrast is too low.

Due to private circumstances I wasn’t very active the last week(s). Since a few days I noticed that the progressbar on the display has vanished or the color is equal to the background. I use the PLi fullnight skin by default and during daytime I switch sometimes to the DarkOS skin for testing purposes. 
For my wife I must use the default skin. Might the vanishing of the progressbar be a consequence of the development of this skin?

 

Well i still can not get that problem. I have all progress bars rendered correctly if they are defined correctly. So is the problem happens on the default skin? How is display set up? With the default set up that come with vanilla PLi installation? Or there is custom skin used for the display? What is the contrast set?

Nor my wife nor my daughter like the DarkOS skin. So the Woman Acceptance Factor (WAF) seems low for this skin. 

 

 

Well all is a matter of personal preference. Thats why there are many skins out there. But i guess in this case is more or less that people are get used to current default skin since that was used many many years

I just noticed, when playing a recording that in that skin display the progressbar seems kind of grey but hard to see where it used to be light blue if I recall right.

I will check other older images on my other Ultimo 4k.

OK...I think here the problem is different...

 

In the matter of colors the most contrast to the black is white (since that is the opposite/inverted color to black). So anything near to the white (in current case it have to be middle between black and white since the text is white and there needs to be a contrast between background and text) should give the best contrast.

 

In your example the event is so short that there is tiny line only. Not matter what color you will put there you will not see it since there are 1px gray border at the both sides. So the actual background will be very very tiny.

 

I know you got used to the old look of GMEPG where there were no borders (when there are graphics used for background) but in my opinion with no borders there is no way to separate correctly the different events too.

 

If blue is used for selection then how you will distinguish between the current service (which background is blue for the whole row in PLi) and selection? In this case selection have to be very light blue or the current service background to be different color. But in that case we will have a christmas tree since there will be many colors (now they are too many too imho).

 

The name of the skin suggests that the skin's color scheme is in dark shades of the colors. So it is normal there to be black and inversion of it white/gray

 

Also all of this is too subjective... I am testing all this on a 4K QLED tv that have really high contrast (by matrix definition) and true black color. So everything on my side is visible very well. However i dont know how that displays on a different tv with different contrast and brightness set up.

Also are you using LCD4Linux with custom skin? Or use the default?

So the problem with progressbar is that in the display skin it is not defined foreground and background for the progressbar widget. So it takes the default.

Before it was working by coincidence since some things in c++ was not overwritten correctly and it was taken another default color from the skin definition (now it get the parent background color which how it should behave imho).

What is the weird thing is that new handling is only when you have corner radius set up....Otherwise it should work like before. But maybe now it takes the parent's color and it is alphablended.....

That have to be experimented so to see how it behave when you explicitly specify background and foreground colors.

 

Besides @Beeker reported that progressbar is back visible with latest update...So i am a bit confused....

When you make changes to e2 there is always a risk at an unexpected place you break something. I hope this one will be cl reared and resolved without making changes to the display skins.

Well yes....the code is too complicated.....and can not be tested in all places.

However it was working before just because the incorrect c++ code make it work. But essentially it is incorrect c++ code that dont need to be like that.

 

And no unfortunately i dont think that will be resolved without to change the display skins...Just because it was incorrect before....

 

With the new code it check is there a backgroundColor defined for the widget. If it is not it takes the foreground or parent's background color. It seems that makes the colors equal and progressbar dissapear.

 

There is no way that to be fixed without changing display skins unless in the cpp it is added some fallback....But what will be that color? From where we will get it?

 

If we revert the code like before it breaks the background of the rounded corners progressbars and even if i set it to black it displays gray....That is not good.

I use the PLi-fullnightHD skin which is the present default skin. For testing purposes I switch to your skin once in a while.

With the default skin since a few days no progressbar with normal (live TV) use nor when playing recordings. 
I don’t use lcd4linux.

 

I must, after closer inspection of the display, nuance my earlier post.

At 3.5 meters away the progress bar is not or barely visible. At 0.5 meters, this gray progress bar, that was previously light blue, is now visible. But at normal distance very poorly.
So please return to the earlier color for this progress bar?

The colors seems inverted... The actual progress is black and the remaining is gray.....weird....

 

As i said in the above post that is not easy to fix without to fix the skin itself. If old color are returned other things got broken...

 

A solution have to be found but we need to discuss that further so to find a solution without to break other things

 

My main issue is that the test box that i use now for development (as you know ) have no LCD and difficult to see it there. I have to wait when my main box is free so to be able to experiment with that.

When a change in the lcd screen skins is needed then we could consider to solve it there…

OK. So what i found missing is the borders.... They are not rendered since it require both borderWidth and borderColor to be specified now.

In the LCD skins borderColor is not specified so it not render a borders.

 

Now i am testing how it will behave if i made the check to look only the borderWidth....Will report shortly or make a pull if it is working.

I was taking the foreground color as fallback....
