hello !

i found a on the net how to unpack a dreambox image , make changes , and repack it again.
just i changed the arabic font md_khmurabi.ttf
the result : boot logo disappeared and fonts become small.
i don't know why.
is there a way to fix this?

The problem will be the skins do not know how to handle the new font you have added, so they will need to modified as well.

Silly question but what is wrong with the Arabic language pack already in Jade2 ?

The arabic font is small and i have a good md_khmurabi.ttf to put .
Ok for this
And the boot logo , why it disappeared?

to unpack an image (undreamboxfs)

you must read the lesson , i have it in arabic , i must translate it for you in english

Let me join the thread, I got a method to unpack and pack dm500 image using mounted CIFS share on Windows PC :D

I took this method from Andrey_sat (many thx m8 :D)who posted here links to other forum some time ago...

So, I've done a little "cosmetics" with these scripts and here you got whole ready-to-use package attached (look down this post ;))
and manual:
1) mount a network share (CIFS) from your PC to dreambox
2) all 6 files from package place in /var/bin , change attributes to 755
3) in "unimg" and "mkimg" scripts - edit (if necessary) path to your mounted directory (first line)- in my files it is /media/cf
4) image you want to rebuild place in your mounted directory
5) dreambox to standby
6) telnet: unimg /media/cf/my_image.img
now it will be swap created first, then your image will be unpacked (about 5-7 min.?) to /tmp/imgdir directory in your box
7) ok now you can change what you want in image (not exactly ;)) - if you want your new image to work, be carefull you know what you are doing :P)
8 ) when changes are finished - telnet: mkimg /media/cf/my_new_image.img
VERY IMPORTANT: since during packing the image dm500 is working on the "verge" (little RAM memory) -
dreambox in "standby" and "do not touch" (remote, ftp, webif - nada) - if so error occurs and that's all :(
be patient, packing of the image takes about 35 minutes and DONE!
9) you've got your new, better ;) image in mounted directory on your PC and you can try to flash the box with it

hope everything is more or less clear (my poor english ;))

I have tested this method succesfully many times, rebuilt some images,
but the ONLY one that I could not unpack is PLiJade_maxvar(?),
"regular" Jade I rebuilt with no problem (now I've got my special PLiJade2_polish_edition ;P), any hints why?

have fun

I'm not an expert, but I would guess that max-var image's change in partiton layout / size causes the unimg script to not find the squashfs it expects at "OFFSET1=1179648". It "might" work if you discovered the proper offset. The same change would probably be needed to the mkimg script to compress the image again...

I found it on other thread:

Ps. If you want to play, try an OFFSET of 1048576 for max-var, no guarantees of course...

and it works, re-packed Jade maxvar image with modified scripts,
thank you very much @hemi /images/smiley/smile.gif

it works great thanks, to all involved.
just one question is it posible to change unimg script to unpack in mounted drive, instead of to /tmp/imgdir ?
