In Topic: OpenPLI 8.1 deep standby on HDMI-CEC

Simple...

When "Regard deep standby as standby" --> is yes

Add option "Handle deep standby from TV" yes/no

No. You must test recording, streaming, timeshift again in plugin...

When is used timer, all is without it.

If you turn off the TV, these tests make no sense, because you will not see a warning on the TV screen anyway.
I think it should be left to the user.
If he wants to turn off the receiver completely with the TV remote, why not let him do it even if he loses some recordings.
You can warn about this by turning on this setting.

Thefore I think this is the best.

Or as openATV
choicelist = [
("disabled", _("Disabled")),
("standby", _("Standby")),
("deepstandby", _("Deep standby"))
]
config.hdmicec.handle_tv_standby = ConfigSelection(default="standby", choices=choicelist)

My personal opinion now about py2 vs py3 is that you need to build code only for py3 compatible and not worry about py2.
Once you switch to py3 you will no longer want to return to py2.
Therefore, I do not see the point in maintaining compatibility.
Additionally, it allows you to modify the code in the hope that active plugin developers will follow.

Closed source inactive plugins will die naturally and I hope their users will find alternatives or live without them.

I personally don't worry about notifications that your image is rubbish if it comes from some plugin developer.
I also don't create plugins for all images.
But it's not because they're rubbish, but because I don't use them and don't want to waste time on tests and exceptions for them.

So going back to the original point...

if fileExists("/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/PicturePlayer/plugin.py"):
Is not going to work on your vision of PLi... and...
if fileExists("/usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/PicturePlayer/plugin.pyc"):
Is not going to work in any other distro...

So whoever is converting shared plugins needs to take that into consideration.

Maybe I missed something but I personally think that such a check is not correct.
The fact that a python file exists does not mean that it is working properly.
I think it is better to use try in the following cases:

try:
        from Plugins.Extensions.PicturePlayer.plugin import Pic_Thumb, picshow
        PicPlayerAviable = True
except ImportError:
        pass

Try:

from Components.Renderer.Renderer import Renderer
