Which pixel formats are supported over HDMI?

23 February 2012 - 05:01

Mainly interested in the ones for HDMI.
Didn't find any related setting in the menu.

What's the default pixel format? OpenWebif indicates RGB. Would that be limited or full range?
Which others are supported? YCbCr 4:2:2 and YCbCr 4:4:4?
How do i set those?

[ET6000] Best way to format USB HDD?

23 February 2012 - 00:07

I have an old Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Ultra ATA/100 320-GB in an external case (Sharkoon® Rapid-Case 3,5' / IDE-USB2.0).
What would be the best format options for use in a CT/Xtrend ET6000.

Not sure about the typical use case, but i would say:

10% for the occasional timeshift, but nothing like the permanent timeshift plugin.

40% for broadcast recordings: 75% for SD (constant ~3 Mbit/s) and 25% for HD (constant ~10 Mbit/s). 25% for movies, 25% for 40-min TV series, 50% for 20-min TV series

50% for own 720p encodes at around 4.5 Mbit/s bitrate. 75% movies, 12.5% each for 20/40-min TV series
Given the small size of the HDD there will be a lot of traffic (frequent deletion of old files) going on to make ends meet.

Was going for:

For the ET boxes, the best settings are:

mkfs.ext4 -O bigalloc,sparse_super,dir_index -C 262144 -T largefile -N 262144 -m0 /dev/sda2

Or should i use the default one:

Or else?

Reboot after opkg upgrade needed?

20 February 2012 - 22:13

I have a cron job for opkg update && opkg upgrade. Afterwards i just sent the box to deep-standby.
Is that enough for major updates within the 2.1 line like kernel updates to take effect or do i need a real reboot of the box?

P.S. What's the best time slot for that cron job to run? Nightly builds are done around 1:00 GMT, but when are the updates usually pushed in the feed?

Aspect Ratios and HDMI

20 February 2012 - 20:19

If i output 576i50 to my TV, which is set to use "native" input, thinks that everything has 4:3 aspect ratio. Even though most of my channels according to the Channel info are 16:9 and look wrong at 4:3.

I guess there's a aspect ratio flag in the HDMI signal. So is my TV ignoring it or the STB not setting it?
