Most provider issued and "maintained" routers have that, that isn't limited to Huawei.
I've worked a lot (in the past) with both their 3G / 4G and their enterprise routing and switching equipment, and its pretty decent stuff. I personally think the entire security discussion is heavily politicised. They only have access to equipment if that is given to them (most telco contracts include on-site and remote maintenance by huawei staff), and I wouldn't trust americans with the same access any more...
The HiSilicon chipset are pretty decent as well, especially given their price-point. And a big plus, instead of relying on codecs in hardware like Broadcom, they use hardware accellerated ffmpeg, which means they can potentionally support any codec as long as support is added to the software.
You are so right, Trust must me earned, i agree, Huawei material (gear) are very good, but it was the first time in 30 Years an ISP resetted my router without asking me first, but may be it is different with Fiber connection are different than ADSL, i am still new to Fiber world.
PS : What is a RAT ?
