IF I do a software update directly from my vu+solo2,does this automatically flash the box to the latest image?

No, it updates the box to the latest image.

How old is your image at this moment?

If older than a few day's ,you better flash,as you can read in this topic.

confused me! you say no then say it updates the box to the latest image?

not sure if that means is does or doesn't flash the box.

what I have at the moment is openpli 4,enigma 21.12.14 and my last upgrade was 22.12.14.

so should I proceed with update directly through box?

Updating is not always the same as flashing.

Seems it depends when was the last time you flashed (not updated!) your box.

Correct. :)

Now I`m confused :)

So the ext4 modules are not missing in new images for all boxes ?

Not a piece of cake for me.

Restoring of the settings leads to crash loop.

There is something in your backup (a skin, a custom skin xml) that conflicts with the current OpenPLi.

Currently in use: VU+ Duo 4K (2xFBC S2), VU+ Solo 4K (1xFBC S2), uClan Usytm 4K Ultimate (S2+T2), Octagon SF8008 (S2+T2), Zgemma H9.2H (S2+T2)

Due to my bad health, I will not be very active at times and may be slow to respond. I will not read the forum or PM on a regular basis.

Many answers to your question can be found in our new and improved wiki.

Op, update of 23-12 killed my box (VU+ Solo2) as well, as the flash was from way back (0128). Tried to reflash the box with mixed results:

OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vusolo2-20141224_usb:

- Hang on 'UBIFS UPGRADE' (gave up after 1 hour, power down and up again)

- Power up gives working receiver, no cifs support, package kernel-module-cifs can't be installed as it's not available according the solo2)

- Tried OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vusolo2-20141221_usb, same result.

OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vusolo2-20141218_usb:

- Hang on 'UBIFS UPGRADE' (gave up after 1 hour, power down and up again)

- Power up gives Pli winter image. box listens to ssh, oscam works, enigma dead.

- Tried OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vusolo2-20140128_usb, same result.

Tried OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vusolo2-20141224_usb again:

- Hang on 'UBIFS UPGRADE' (gave it 10.5 hours, same result as before)

Finally able to download newer version OpenPLi-4.0-beta-vusolo2-20141226_usb:

- Hang on 'UBIFS UPGRADE' (gave it 10.5 hours, same result as before)

- Power up gives working receiver, no cifs support, package kernel-module-cifs can't be installed as it's not available according the solo2)

Giving up on cifs (windows crap, back to good old nfs), but the hang on UBIFS UPGRADE still remains. How can I fix this so the flash succeeds?

I finally got the upgrade thorough on my vu+ultimo.

First I deleted very old unused setting-files from hdd . Then:

init 4
opkg update
opkg install kernel
-module-cifs
opgk install kernel
-module-ext4

init 6

(Waiting for reboot to finish)

init 4
/etc/init.d/settings-restore.sh
/etc/init.d/autoinstall.sh
init
6

And box is up and running again.

I am using a GigaBlue UHD UE 4k

is the cifs share working on solo for anyone? (with the pkgs installed...)

All my mounts is gone since last update and it not possible to do new ones. Cant use my boxes to share recorded films or play from NAS :(

Tried it on my Duo and it still doesn't  work

Look like this when using telnet

If we can not use VU+ to share from one VU to another or play from NAS
Openpli is not useful anymore

I will go back to Blackhole, that worked 100% when i used it during the time you have problems (beginning of dec)

I do not understand what you are doing. Openpli was the best .. What are you looking for .. Is BSP the way away from a good IMG?

Oops, it seems that:

opgk install kernel-module-ext4

should be

opkg install kernel-module-ext4

;)

Don't use opgk install kernel-module-ext4 but opkg install kernel-module-ext4

So opkg instead of opgk!

If the negative attitude remains, it might get very tempting.

My Solo2 is working again, will see how things develop. Next time, first read posts, then try an upgrade. ;)

@Pedro, reinstall of cifs didn't help, I'll stick with what I know, UNIX/Linux based shares. (Been working with the stuff since 1988)
