I do not know about OpenATV.

But why do not try to update and see.  If you use autobackup, it is a matter of 10 minutes to update.  I presume this is the case in OpenATV as well.

Good chance it works.  OpenATV uses the OE-Alliance version of the XMLTV plug-in (and Crossepg) which are updated.

Willy, regarding the DOS-like downloads you should consider using Bot-Trap.

With a proper configuration of the .htaccess and php.ini it very efficient.

Im using it on my blog and I'm very satisfied.

For the 20th time.  Please update before posting question for solutions.

I have not done this without a very good reason.  We get to rogue downloads under control, or completly quit.

Now I am getting already all kinds of messages on my private e-mail account.

First they start begging for information.

When I refuse, they get abusive.

I am very, very tired.

[...]

Well, I did'nt post a question, I just posted a sugestion for an idea to exclude certain IPs from the downloads.

(my personal solution to the EPG was to abandon VTi and convert to Open-PLI - should have done this ages ago...)

I'm realy thankful for your work and pi**ed by the behavior of some so called "human" beings with lacking respect to your work.

I even thought about donating webspace for the sourcefiles - this is an open offer and will be available if some load-balancing-like behavior could be implemented to limit the daily downloads from my server, e.g. by an PHP-script which deals with all download requests and refuses any further requests as soon as a predefined daily limit (Volume or number of downloads) is exceeded. When this is available I'll set up within a few minutes a subdomain, FTP-account (and a MySQL-database if necessary) for you on my webspace.

Thanks for the offer.  We will keep it in the back of our head to consider after we have this situation under control.

@jandueren: I was not targeting you.  Not even one in this thread.  I was just very pi**ed by the people which considered they get more service by targetting my private e-mail addres.

Perhaps a donation system has to be setup, so a few dedicated machines with unlimited bandwidth can be rented (can be as low as 6 euro/month)?

well, morons do it this way:

Quote

*removed*

Then they edit and delete the rytec.sources.xml which they were told not to use ...

But if they would not be morons they would just click the link and get the necessary file out and edit it on the PC - then the DOS formatting would be even an advantage ;)

They would, because this is exactly what people do who abuse the system. People that thanks to you now exactly know how to.

What were you again? Yes, exactly.

You can certainly code but opensource community is about working together and that is something you have to learn or just stay the miserable moron for the rest of your life.

In this case the hard part is not the EPG code but maintaining the EPG data (Tnx Doglover and his colleagues!)

If you are such a good programmer, you would know that Notepad++ or PsPad just do not care about a file in linux or DOS format.  They read it, edit it anyway.  And save it it the same format as it was created.

I posted already that I edit the file on the box and not on a PC and doing dos2unix *.xml all the time is anoying.

If you do it on the PC your argument is against you - because it would mean for you on the PC with these editors it would not matter if a native Linux filesystem would be used.

But we are waisting our time and effort here.

All the great solutions which were pointed out yet, are simply old fashioned and not what I call innovative - so maybe you should consider to ask a lord of misrule for advice ...

This whole epg data topic and epg server issues is a waste of time and effort.

Lets hope the Rytec Team doesnt pull the plug and still have some motivation to do the things they do for years.

Whatever their choice will be be I'm grateful for all the free time, money and personal effort they put into it.

Its their constant update and collection of epg data that makes the enigma2 boxes more functional

Tnx Rytec Team!!!
