I've been downloading some mkv files of "battlestar galactica".

when I play these with VLC I have no less than 10 subtitle tracks.

but when I play the file in openPli, NO subtitle tracks are available !

how come ? how can I get those subtitles displayed in openPli ?

see screenshots of VLC and of openPLI :

All subs are graphical (DVD) subs and that does not work with E2... they play only text subs with 'gstreamer'...

The only thing what you can do is 'google' the WWW to find srt (text) subtitle files.... Or ODB the graphical subs to text...(srt)... (or wait long long long time maybe someone with long free time added graphical sub support to E2)

or use VLC to play the files & chromecast the image to the tv - works also but is more cumbersome.....

so - graphical subs - but enigma2 CAN show graphical subs (DVB) so what makes these subtitles so special then ?

Gstreamer (servicemp3) does not ‘know’ how to play them... and so what... graph subs do s#ck!

I bet the only that plugin does is download the SRT subs. Which you can do yourself just as good.

So that's the advice here, download SRT subs and insert them into the mkv file. You will find though they're often not in sync with the video, so they will need adjustment.

Battlestar Galactica version I or version II?

The screenshots shown indicates it is the modern Galactica, not the Clasic... ;)

In that case: never mind, not worth watching it  The story is horrible and the final even worse.

agree with the final, they really frakked that one up.

overall story & special effects make up for the louse final in my opinion.

as for the subtitles, I have them, in sync, it's just that enigma2 seems not capable to show them but as I said before I'll chromecast using VLC which does show the subtitles.

That's exactly why I downloaded the SRT subs and they were widly off, all off them, had to correct them all by hand. It can work if the edit is the same, but sometime the edit is different (added/delete scenes, cut commercials etc.) and then will never get it right.

Anyway, I hate graphical subtitles. Not just because enigma can't play them, but more because they mostly suck, much too low resolution, wrong placement, etc. Using text (SRT) subs, the font is always smooth and perfect and the placing can be to your own liking.
