all very nice , but in reality (and this the real reports the "sss" stuff works ok for a lot of streams but not for all.

 

I tried player and other stuff ..... unstable and not working.

 

So the only real extra stuff of SSS is 0000 . the only thing he did : added some websites which are clear open to the air but also illegal hacks for sites which are NOT open and bla bla bla.

 

To work whit a plugin which abuse all legal stuff sorry .... that's a NO GO

Chris, you know I do not approve of SSS "manners" or the lack thereof, calling people names at all times, if they dare differ from his opinion etc. etc. - and that I have frequently told him off on those grounds, because he really "deserved" it...

 

However, as far as his coding is concerned, from a standpoint of an IT-lay person/user (me), who tested a lot of that stuff, I must say your conclusion seems a bit doubtful...

 

I tested SSS's "stuff" in various older, weaker HW, under the same E2 image, in Gstreamer/various players and ffmpeg/Eplayer3 combinations - lots!

 

My conclusion is opposite from yours. In weaker, older HW ffmpeg/Eplayer3 combination works much better and does a lot more "stuff"...

 

I don't know how you tested it, maybe there was a problem in how you installed/configured it - I don't know but...

 

Under the same conditions, at the very least in weaker/older HW - ffmpeg/eplayer3 works and way better...

 

Plus, SSS promised to open it all up, in time - Open Source, that is - so give him a chance...

Now in basic e2 almost (sorry not all) plays ok .

 

the "sss" stuff only works for his personal selected streams thats it en of line.(and of course a couple of sites brought in be other persons.)

 

So the question is :

 

WILL OPENPLI USE SSS CLOSED STUFF WITH DEPRECATED  LIBRARY AND ...

 

Or will openpli stay using up to date stuff whitout the posible malware introduced by "sss" whit his closed sources.

No, the issue is: will he "open it up" - as promised - or not.

 

And it does work, I'd rather not forget it, in terms of older, limited HW/STBs.

 

"Normal" Gstreamer based stuff in E2 frequently does not work in older STBs - tested on SH4 and mipsel platforms!

 

Sure, newer HW may not need it at all, thanx to your good Gstreamer efforts, too - for which many of us are grateful! - but...

 

I know what you are saying and you are right, it should/ought to be Open Source but that does not make it all black, I don't think...

Too be honest I find gstreamer working pretty well now.

With 1.9.0.1 it plays the same streams on my dm800hd (300mhz single core nofpu) as my zgemma star h2h (750mhz dual core).
That same goes for sh4 which is also very weak.

Keep in mind that OpenPLi doesn't support these receivers anymore.

Personally I wouldn't accept an enigma2 player backend in my official images which depends on a closed source player.

I say release the full source first.

I just tried out the very last gstreamer recipes. 1.9.0.1.

 

common has been updated and a couple off works on hlsdemux.

 

I also just made a experimental patch for servicemp3.cpp of enigma2.

 

Now users are able to adapt the service links for m3u8 channels.

 

After this patch you can add  option #max-speed  .

 

The result is that if you're internet connection is ok you will have the max resolution at once.

 

Tested on vuduo2 and dm8000.

I see you've also removed the:

RRECOMMENDS_${PN} += "${PN}-meta"

 

Could you please add this patch to gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad ?

fix-maybe-uninitialized-warnings-when-compiling-with-Os.patch

 

It's required for building for Vu Solo 4k (which is arm platform) and it's also supported by OpenPLi.

I think that it could very well affect the gstreamer working with network streams.
But maybe needs more test it.

I know that openpli team do not like a lot of config entries, but if it really affects, maybe need to think about separate enigma config.

I think the majority off streams are working well. At least by me all 100 % ok.

 

It is just the m3u8 which will selcet at once the highest chunk in playlist. And so is avoided to start with a lower bandwidth chunklist and then to switch over to a higher bandwidth chunklist.

 

That is why i set it like that.

 

But it also work very nice on (which is not a live stream) :

what's the average speed for internet now between 10 and 20 Mbits/s  that between 10000 kbps and 20000 kbps I gues

So watch out, a global setting can have problems, i guess they need to unify the setting.

Yes You're right. Could cause problems indeed. Also seeing all possible values versus demuxer elements, think it's best to keep even only a single speed like set now and then for each stream.

 

@Taapat , did you already tried if you for example set into the Youtube plugin to set for streams using playlist.m3u8  (as experiment) the add to made service link #max-speed. Perhaps then this can be add as a configure option off plugin self.

I've test so what all streams I have , and it's ok.

 

But this test base is really to low to put a force for all m3u8.

Then I do have a fast internet connection 150Mbit/s . Limited however by my router which still only is 100 Mbit/s .

 

But a lot off persons have slower internet connections  (not shure it will work ok there)

Also some are using wifi which is sometimes not so stable.

In those cases the max-speed maybe break stuff.

 

Double check needs to be made that it does not break the extra-header support , I do not think so , but it must be tested anyway.

I have not tested too much, but everything witch I tried work very well for me.
I assume that currently, no one publicly available hls provider, to protect their own resources, do not offer such a high resolution, with witch is a problem in standard interenet connection.
