Interesting read about Unicable/JESS and simultaneous recording...

WanWizard and Erik- I'm sure you know what I'm referring to.

I'm only in the middle of that thread, but it already looks like I may need to stick that patch in, just to avoid possible issue in the future.

Dear oh, dear.. I didn't realise how much work you're putting into this project.

That patch is only a exploration of the problem, it's not a solution.

Also, the issue is not related to FBC nor SCR, it's related to every tuner that shares a cable with another tuner.

The best and simplest solution for the moment is to simply add one minute to recordings that start at the same time.

We have beside jess and unicable a dSRT type that uses unicable below SCR 4 and above SCR 4 (5...) it uses JESS... maybe we need to consider to add a value to make the value 4 'configurable' by adding dSRC,8 for example the switch in the video....

return index >= 4 and "jess" or "unicable" if value == "dSRC" else value

That is only relevant for a handful of Sky specific switches.

And where Littlesat writes "SCR" you should read "user band". SCR = Single Cable Reception = Unicable and JESS.

Yes, indeed.

I only finished reading that thread a minute ago.

Looking back, my post there was as much needed as a diving mask on top of Everest..

In the meantine- indeed, I will warn client not to start recordings at exactly same time.

And exactly this kind of mis-naming led me to starting my original query with a base of terms used (tuner/tuner card/card slot etc)

One really can get lost..

Erik... in between there are more swithes having that... they have the first eight as unicable and the other 24 as Jess... view the video in this thread... The name was as far I remembered derived from the type of sky switch... when you know a better name then please give an idea how to change it../ it is easy to change the name as currently we only have it at two locations
The switch plus 2 wideband lnbs are offered in Germany for a bit less than 160 Euro.... I’m Considering to try one. The models are not yet available in any unicable.xml... and oe-a cannot support this yet...

To the best of my limited knowledge

SCR= Satellite Channel Router

But hey, I'm new here, and to unicable as well..

I may be wrong.

Sorry, but it is adding confusion and it IS wrong. SCR = Single Cable Reception.

But even that term is not in common use. But it may explain some of the confusion.

Not that I forgot to update on the site developments, there simply isn't much yet.

Hopefully multiswitches and VU+ will be ordered this week, I really need to start stomping on managers head re- dishes and cables..

In the meantime I'm preparing spaces for TVs etc.

And if anyone thinks its easy to cut in a 43" TV precisely flush with kitchen wall that for most part doesn't have enough depth to start with..

Well.. I may invite such a person to the site! Let him/her do it.

Finally..

I've got pretty much all the bits.

Its kinda interesting, though..

Why an order (of VU+) placed in a north London shop, with a delivery to south London, takes over 10 days to turn up..

Whilst order placed in Germany( inverto switches), on Friday AFTERNOON, is on my doorstep Monday morning?

A lot of shops (online or not) don't have any stock at all, and most of them only order after they've received payment.

I get all my stuff from mainland Europe, and Germany is indeed the place to be for sat equipment.

It's called dropshipping and it's quite popular now. Many stores don't have a stock of themselves anymore.

The most recent news is that courier made a mistake and sent it to wrong depot..
True or not- it was supposed to come in on Friday.

No.. Still didn't turn up.

Here's something I built in the meantime (still work in progress, mind)

Holy sh*t, documentation ;). I know some installers that don't know that word (in my building 18 flats, 3 cables per flat, not a single cable or switch port labled)...

Maybe not pretty "label printer" designer stuff..

But I think any person coming there after me will at least have a chance of knowing what's going on.

Yes, I was thinking if that.. In a way..

What I was thinking was to make a proper file, number of printed pages.

Its a sketch of an idea at this moment, but something like this:

1.
Sat reception:
1.1 Dish settings/aim
1.2 Switching system
1.2.1 Unicable overview
1.2.2 Inverto switches overview
1.3 VU+ FBC tuners overview

2.
OpenPLI
2.1 overview
2.2 useful stuff (links/reprints of few OplenPLI wiki pages, ie backups)
2.3 WebIF overview

3.
Streaming devices
3.1 KODI overview
3.1.1 Kodi PVR settings
3.2 Android Enigma apps.
3.2.1 Settings.
3.3 Apple apps
3.3.1 settings.
3.4 PC/laptop access (windows/Linux/mac)
3.4.1 settings, players (ie VLC)

4.
Channels list
4.1 Bouquets
4.1.1 editing
4.1.2 updating bouquets on devices.

5.
Troubleshooting
5.1 VU+
5.2 KODI
5.3 android
5.4 Apple
5.5 PC

6.
Links
6.1 this thread
6.2 OpenPLI wiki
6.3 inverto website
6.4 VU+ website

7.
Specs
7.1 tech specs VU+
7.2 tech specs switching

8.
Settings applied
8.1 VU+ FBC settings
8.2 inverto switching setting
8.3 user bands assignment

9.
Notes.

Looks like sh*tliads to write up. I may need to cut it down a bit..
